ARCEVIA

“The Whole of Italy in just one Region"

The Marche Tourist Office uses the catchphrase quoted above with some justification. > Le Marche < contains everything for which Italy is famous, concentrated in an area of 9700 square kilometres. > Le Marche < is the most changeable but still the most typical of Italian landscapes, lying between the Adriatic and the Apennines in softly undulating hills. Away from the overcrowded regions of Italy, > Le Marche < has developed into the best alternative for a genuine Italian holiday. We belong to the Arcevia district which is the biggest district of > Le Marche <. The town was a bastion of the Church State at the height of its powers. The medieval structures are still intact, with the narrows alleys, closely built palaces and houses, the city walls and towers, the squares and the churches. The erstwhile prominence of Arcevia is reflected even today in the encircling nine fortress towns of Avacelli, Castiglioni,Piticchio, Montale Nidastore, Loretello, San Pietro, Caudino and Palazzo which picturesquely climb the steep hillsides or perch on a hilltop. These were once erected to repel foreign invaders and stand today as part of Italy’s cultural heritage. The nine towns are best viewed as a round tour. Piticchio’s central position allows you to spend a relaxing day at the beach or explore the surrounding area. The beaches of Senigallia, are located 28 km from Piticchio, and are renown in the Marche region. We recommend a trip to the Conero, a mountain south of Ancona which slopes into the sea and lends its name to the natural park of the region. At Portonovo, Sirolo and Numana (at 80km) our guests can spend a pleasant day at the beach, play golf, go trekking or horse ride. The interesting architecture is an element which strongly characterizes the Marche region: in fact, the countryside is spangled with numerous villages of medieval origin, such as the famous Urbino (54km), Corinaldo (18km) Mondavio (20km), Gradara (84km), as well as hide-aways such as the castle of Arcevia (9km), and of course Piticchio. In the west, traveling towards Umbria, a visit to the Frasassi caves (23km) with its incredible beauty and natural splendour should not be missed. The caves were discovered in 1971 and opened to the public in 1974. They offer guided tours in various languages through the caves. The historic city centre of Sassoferrato (22km), was built on the ruins of the roman city Setinum, and Fabriano (35km), worldwide known for its production of paper, deserves a visit before crossing the boarder to the region of Umbria. From there the road leads some renown artistic towns such as Gubbio (57km), Assisi (84km) and Perugia (97km).We could fill endless pages describing the unspoilt beauty of the Marche region.
